The Mothership by Oregrown
Watermelon Milkshake x Cherry Papaya
Hey guys, new joint review today.
I recently got the opportunity to try The Mothership by Oregrown with a group of friends, courtesy of Oregon’s Finest dispensary in the Pearl District of Portland, Oregon. This massive joint is intimidating to pull out of its multi-layered container, but holding it in your hand gives you a good idea of what you’re getting into.
For starters, the packaging looks great! Oregrown always comes through with phenomenal art on their products. Whoever they work with for design or their art, I hope they’re getting fairly compensated because their packaging is consistently awesome. A standout for me is their Ray Gun packaging. If you remember the events of the 2024 Olympics, you know this name comes with its own laughs, and the reference to the imagery is hilarious.
Back to the joint, this is definitely one you’re going to want to pass around at a party or get comfortable with because you’re gonna be puffing on it for a while.
What’s Inside
This Mothership had 2g of Watermelon Milkshake flower and 0.25g of Cherry Papaya rosin, testing as a hybrid. I believe this also qualifies as a hash hole, a joint with hash or rosin in the center that’s supposed to burn into a donut shape. This one didn’t really leave that ring we were looking for, but honestly, I’m not too picky about that since you can still tell when you’re hitting the rosin.
Smoking Experience
When we lit it up, it started off nice and smooth. Thankfully, no canoeing — which is always the biggest fear with joints this size. A bad setup or first pull can ruin the whole thing.
You can tell when you hit the rosin because the cherry gets really bright and produces a ton of smoke. But I’ve got to say, it was a lot rougher than I expected. I like to call this kind of smoke “spicy.” I’m not sure if the spiciness came from the quality of the flower or just the way the rosin burned, but it was definitely harsher on the throat than I was hoping for.
Around the halfway point, the flavor went from sweet and creamy to more burnt-tasting. And honestly, that’s when it started going downhill for me. If you can’t enjoy the flavor, it’s hard to want to finish the rest of the joint.
It took a group of four of us about 30 minutes to get through it, which is a long time when you’re at a party and the flavor’s not holding up.
Effects & Rating
The high was calming, with the effects really concentrated in the face. I usually think of strains like Cherry Pie and Papaya as giving great full-body effects, so this felt a little different.
Overall, I’d give this joint a solid 5/10 — and honestly, maybe even a 4/10 once you factor in the price point. For what you’re paying, I don’t think it’s worth it. Our group agreed we’d rather grab another roll that costs a third of the price, smokes smoothly, and lasts just as long.
As much as I love Oregrown’s packaging, this one feels a little like a tourist trap — great to look at, but not one I’d personally recommend.
